Excellent Marathon Experience

If you like a course that showcases a beautiful river, great neighborhoods full of energetic spectators, and lots of friendly, helpful volunteers then Richmond is for you! Although it is a big marathon it is well executed from packet pick-up to race start to a fun celebration finish! They even throw in a very nice downhill finish to help you soar across the finish line. The whole town gets behind the race, too, and this truly makes for an excellent marathon experience.

Kenyan wins Richmond Marathon for second year in a row

Defending champion Elly Rono of Kenya broke his own course record at the Sun Trust Richmond Marathon on Saturday, finishing in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 36 seconds.

Rono does it again!

enya's Elly Rono took control of the race early and cruised to an event record in winning today's 26th SunTrust Richmond Marathon in a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes and 36 seconds. That bested the old record he set last year by 26 seconds.

Tracking devices attached to each runners shoe along with special pads placed on the course will allow fans to track the progress of anyone in the race using the the race's website.
