Organisers of the 2020 Belfast City Marathon, that was earlier postponed to September 20, announced that the event is now cancelled for the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All entries will be deferred to the 2021 event but runners can choose to run virtual races on September 20.

The organisers of the 2020 Belfast City Marathon rescheduled the event to Sunday 20th September 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. In its absence and for the first time in 39 years, Belfast City Marathon Ltd have decided to "run" a Virtual Marathon Distance Run, where everyone can get involved by walking, jogging or running the 26.2 miles safely.
