IAAF has ratified the marathon world record set by Wilson Kipsang of Kenya at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON on 29 September 2013. Kipsang (31) won in 2:03:23 hrs breaking the previous record of 2:03:38 set by Patrick Makau at the 2011 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON.

The 2013 Berlin Marathon sold its 40,000 slots in three and one half hours. The 2014 Berlin Marathon has introduced a random selection for those who pre-registered.
