A Cross Continents Marathon

The signature of this event is to run cross continents. It was fun to do so. The route is beautiful. The race took over the cross-continent bridge and some good sections of Istanbul major streets. The marathon finished in the center of the city. The marathon was well-organized. Spectators were cheering close to the end of the race. The ferry took an hour to get to the starting area. I took 7:40am ferry. I was barely making the start. There was an 8:00am ferry. It would be nice to have a clear info about which ferry should the runners take. This was the first time I visited Turkey. I was able to use this opportunity to tour around. Turkey is a good vacation destination. It has rich culture, beautiful nature scenery, fascinating history, and friendly people.

Ruth Jebet achieved her biggest marathon triumph so far at the Turkiye Is Bankasi Istanbul Marathon on Sunday. The former Kenyan who competes for Bahrain remains unbeaten at the classic distance, making it four wins out of four. For much of the race the 2016 Olympic Steeplechase champion, who switched to the marathon in 2023, was on course for a sub 2:20 time. However with very strong winds hitting Istanbul during the second half of the race the 27 year-old had to settle for a winning time of 2:24:45. Ethiopia's Dejene Debela raced to his biggest career win in Istanbul's men's race. The 29 year-old crossed the line in 2:11:40.

TURKIYE IS BANKASI ISTANBUL MARATHON ON SUNDAY: Ethiopians target records in Istanbul, Ruth Jebet and Sharon Cherop among women's favourites

The men's course record will be the target at the Türkiye Is Bankasi Istanbul Marathon on Sunday and possibly the Turkish Allcomers' record could go as well. The elite fields of the Türkiye Is Bankasi Istanbul Marathon are among the best ever assembled for Turkey's major race at the classic distance. Around 7,500 marathon runners will compete on Sunday, starting on the Asian side of Istanbul and then finishing on Sultanahmet Square in the city's historic center on the European side.
